Full Fast: A complete fast from food, focusing entirely on prayer and seeking God's presence.

Social Media/Technology: This fast isn’t just about food—if you choose to fast from social media or technology, this can be a powerful way to declutter your mind and focus your heart on God during this time.

How to Participate:

How to Fast in a Way that Draws You Closer to God

There are practical steps and spiritual exercises to help you engage with God during this time, and it’s our prayer that as you fast, you will experience the profound transformation that only God can bring.

 Instructions for Fasting

  1. Preparation
Before beginning your fast, take time to reflect and prepare. Ask yourself why you are fasting and what you are hoping to receive from God during this time. Prepare your heart through prayer and scripture.  Consider the type of fast that would be most beneficial to you—whether it’s a complete fast (no food), a partial fast (restricting certain foods or meals), a Daniel fast (eating only fruits and vegetables), or a social media/technology fast.

  2. Set Your Focus
Fasting is about focus—shifting your attention from the physical to the spiritual. During this time, commit to spending additional time with God in prayer, worship, and scripture reading. Set aside specific moments each day to connect with Him, listen for His voice, and reflect on His promises. Consider journaling your thoughts, prayers, and any insights that God may give you.

  3. Prayer Focus
While fasting, it is essential to stay connected to God through prayer. Set aside intentional time to read the devotional and pray daily. This can include prayer for personal growth, guidance, breakthrough in specific areas of life, or for others in need. As you fast, pray for clarity, strength, and wisdom, trusting that God will honor your desire to draw closer to Him.

  4. Take Care of Your Body
Fasting is not only a spiritual discipline but also a physical one. Listen to your body’s needs, especially if you’re fasting for an extended period. Drink plenty of water and take necessary breaks if you feel lightheaded or unwell. Remember, fasting is meant to be a time of focus, not of harm to your body. If you have medical concerns or health conditions, please consult with your doctor before beginning.

  5. Stay Committed to the Journey
Fasting can be challenging. There will be moments when your body craves food or you face distractions that make it difficult to stay focused. In these moments, remember the purpose of your fast. When the temptation to quit arises, turn your attention to prayer, scripture, and worship. Know that God is faithful to meet you in every moment of weakness and will strengthen you for the journey.

If you are on medication or have a medical condition, please consult your doctor before beginning a fast.
