Day 7 Devotional: The Breakthrough
Scripture: Isaiah 43:18-19
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."
What does it really mean to experience a breakthrough? It’s easy to think of breakthrough as something that happens when God finally answers our prayers, when the situation shifts, or when the obstacle moves out of the way. But the true breakthrough doesn’t just happen in our circumstances—it happens in our hearts.
A breakthrough is not just a change in what is happening around you; it’s a transformation in how you see what’s happening within you. It’s when God makes a way where there was no way. It’s when His perspective becomes your perspective, and suddenly, you see things not for what they are, but for what they can become in His hands.
Isaiah 43:18-19 speaks directly to this kind of breakthrough. God says, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past." That’s the hard part, isn’t it? We want breakthrough, but we often cling to the old, the comfortable, the things that have shaped our understanding of the world. God is asking us to let go of the past because it can hold you back from stepping into the new. The promise of breakthrough isn’t in the past; it’s in the future He is creating.
God says, "I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." This is not just about a physical change—it’s about spiritual and emotional transformation. Breakthrough happens when we allow God to move us beyond what we can see, to step into the possibilities that are ahead.
The wilderness and the wasteland represent those places in our lives that feel barren, hopeless, and full of uncertainty. But God is in the business of creating something from nothing, making a way where there seems to be no way. When we’re stuck in the wilderness, all we see is what’s in front of us—the dryness, the emptiness. But God sees a path, a river, a place of abundance and flourishing. Breakthrough happens when we stop looking at what is and start looking at what God is about to do.
It requires you to recognize that the breakthrough is as much about who you become as it is about what you receive. It’s about what God has done in your heart through the waiting, the fasting, the pressing in. And when you finally step into that breakthrough, it won’t just be a moment of victory—it will be the culmination of all the steps you’ve taken to get there.
Today’s Prayer
"Father, I recognized that at times I have been so focused on the past—on what I’ve lost, on what didn’t work, on what hasn’t changed—that I’ve missed what You are doing right now. I ask You to open my eyes to the new thing You are making. Help me to let go of the former things that hold me back from stepping into the breakthrough You have for me. I trust that You are making a way in my wilderness, and streams in my wasteland. I surrender to Your will, to Your timing, and to Your transformation. I am ready for the breakthrough You’ve prepared. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
